SUPPORT A WOMAN, SUPPORT THE NATION.
Empowering Women in Agriculture
Ziwfat is a trust for women farmers founded by Mrs Depina Nkomo on 12April 2012 with a view of addressing the plight of women farmers in Zimbabwe. Mrs Nkomo had witnessed the hardships faced by women farmers whilst trying to accesses government assisted farming inputs. Many women were seen sleeping in quees, only to receive 1x50kg bag of fertilizer. Some would risk being abused, robbed or even killed whilst they walked through bushed in the early hours, trying to get to the receiving depots early.
Mrs Nkomo then thought that speaking with one voice as women farmers would enable women to be recognized and receive attention from government, hence the formation Zimbabwe Indigenous Women Farmers Trust (ZIWFAT).
